“Ik ben een lekker ding”

Hooked up and ready to go

Hooked up and ready to go

What have I done? What was I thinking? I arranged for ziplining in Aviemore, to do something different with the kids, something fun and exciting. And exciting it was… up to the moment my two kids were strapped together, launched on a zipline too high up in the air to my liking…We found a great company to do the ziplining with, very professional, very conscious about safety, very good with kids and 40 year old, loud women. So after being geared up in the most flattering outfit you can imagine we started the climb to the starting point. We have such a wretched physical condition and it looks really stupid when you try to keep up with healthy young people speeding up that hill… Maybe something to work on as a new years resolution… in 2017… yeah… not really a lot of motivation from my side…

Great guide

Great guide

We listened very careful to the safety instructions… always one lock on the safety rope… never put your hands before the slider… then 2 locks on the rope for the zip… face forward… Oups… my friend must have missed that one… Our guide must have thought omg yet another couple of middle aged women to handle today….O yes, dear, this was only zipline number one.

A few zips later my friend – I would never ever do this… – had the great idea to teach the guide some Dutch. “Say after me: Ik ben een lekker ding”. “What does that mean?” “I am hungry”. Yeah, right. Even one of the girls of the other families who didn’t speak Dutch understood that it probably would be something else… But the guide was a great sport and pronounced it right… and took his revenge a few zips later. My friend was kept above the ravine, held hostage until she’d say what it really meant. But he still didn’t believe her…

Walking back

Walking back

Anyone with two kids (boy and girl) in the pre and teen age understands that they don’t always get along very well. And that had to happen of course on a moment I wished they’d just work together. As they were too light by themselves, they had to be hooked together to take the scariest ride we were about to take that day. Especially the ending, where a ball was attached to break the speed. Unless you would get your hand in between, then the hand would break the speed. ?#??@?!?#?!??# When I got there and saw my kids were in one piece they looked at me as if I was an alien, all was good and peachy.

At the end my teenage daughter is still not really impressed… “I thought it would be much higher, faster and longer”… ?!?!?!?!
