Eating in Oslo

While I write this I am wondering why I like the restaurants I like. For sure it is not for the food alone!

This is what I came up with: authenticity and atmosphere, genuine and pure food, friendliness of staff and ability to remember me – haha, value for money. O yes… and good cocktails.

So my number 1 is Bolgen & Moi in Tjuvholmen. Starting with the bartenders. Everytime I walked in they knew to start preparing a sweet cocktail. Always a new one, one I hadn’t tasted before. Brilliant. The fish soup… to die for…. well and any other item on the menu.

My number 2 is Ante Etagen, opposite to the National Theater. I haven’t been there lately. It was the first restaurant I was taken to as token of appreciation to help out a team back in 2011 or 2012. I only had one request: Norwegian specials… and that’s what I got, including Rudolf and whale.

The 3rd one would be Escalon. Also in Tjuvholmen at the waterside. Love the sharing of plates. Especially the steak plate was jummy. We went here several times and I took my Indian and Bangladeshi teams here as well. It was great fun.

On 4, guess I would chose Alex Sushi close to Solli. I don’ t like all sushi dishes and want to have decent flavor, which in a lot of cases is a challenge. Not here. By far the most brilliant sushi I ate in my life.

Just in front of Alex Sushi was my number 5 Fauna. A high end one – with Michelin star – maybe not for a daily dinner due to the prices. Portions are mini… but what a treat… half of the time I didn’t even know what I was eating… but heavenly. I just found out they closed this summer…
