Wandering in Oslo

norway oslo vigiland park

I often wondered when I was part time living there: if I would need to show someone Oslo, what would I show and do?

The Palace

The Palace

And obviously it heavily depends on what I like and don’t like… Museums are among the things that don’t thrill me too much. Nice views, typical architecture, the real life and photogenic places are more my thing. Add some great food places and I am happy. For Oslo, I find it very difficult to create a long list of things to see… I never stayed over the weekend, so all my escapades happened in the evening or late afternoon. The one thing I would have loved but didn’t have the time for were boat trips on the fjords. I had the opportunity once, but got ill a few hours before departure…

Stories in Vigiland Park

Stories in Vigiland Park

Vigiland Park is probably the highest on my list – next to the boat trips I never did… The last time I had visited this park was last year in spring. I returned from the medical center and wanted to brighten up my day by strolling through the park. I would be out for 6 weeks after that… a big sign of my health deteriorating….So I decided to pass by again last week when I got invited for a reunion with the intent to making it more enjoyable… it was a bright day. I appreciate it when artists have a distinct style. In this case I find it fascinating how the artist has put so much emotions and stories into such simple lines. As I take pictures I make it a sport to have no one else on the pictures, which is challenging on a nice and sunny day…

The areas I really liked to walk around in and have dinner (check out my other post…) are Akerbrygge and Tjuvholmen. One of the nicest and liveliest parts of town. And yes, touristy as well. This is where you can take the boat trips I never took…

The Cabin

The Cabin

Guess if you are staying over the weekend during snow season, you have to stay and sleep in a “cabin”. It is such a big thing here, everyone has one or two, for the summer or winter. During the season the traffic jams outbound start on Thursday afternoon around 3 pm… yes, they take it very seriously (… and I soooooooooooooooo understand).
